Sumatran Tiger Tigers are highly endangered but breed well in zoos. A Sumatran tiger cub was born at the National Zoo in September, 2001.
		African Elephant   Both African and Asian elephants are endangered in the wild. Neither breeds very often in zoos.
		Sloth Bear These shaggy-furred bears are native to India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. They eat ants, termites, and fruits.
		Cheetah Cheetahs can sprint faster than any other mammal, but wear out after just a few hundred yards.
		African Lion A lion's roar can be heard up to five miles away.
		Caracal   This beautiful cat, native to parts of Africa and Asia, is new to the National Zoo.
		Western Lowland Gorilla The largest of the primates, gorillas regularly breed at the National Zoo.
