Classes
From general animal topics zoo animal photography,
FONZ offers a wide variety of classes, both for children age
2 and above and for adults. Learn a skill, follow a life
dream, enhance a resume, pique a child’s curiosity – it’s
all possible with our classes. Some fulfill the requirements
for official certification.
Encourage a child to explore the lives of reptiles,
roaches, rhinos, and rainforests. Children entering grades
kindergarten through fifth can spend a week during the summer
exploring the lives, habitats, and conservation efforts for
animals around the world through hands-on science activities,
Zoo walks, lively discussion, exciting experiments, and creative
craft projects.
National
Zoo’s Evening Lectures
The National Zoo offers free evening lectures and booksignings
on various topics, offered by expert authors and researchers.
Some past lecture topics have been the evolution of zoological
parks, natural medicine, and the use of DNA study and other
methods to improve conservation programs.
Snore
and Roar (May through September)
Have you ever woken up next to a lion? (Spouses
don’t count.) Now, you can! After an evening snack and a
two-hour exploration of an animal house or exhibit area, led
by a National Zoo keeper, participants hike through the zoo
with flashlights for a nocturnal tour, then camp underneath
the stars in a provided, four-person tent. Then rise to the
morning rumbles, whoops, roars, and warbles of the animals,
and enjoy a morning activity and continental breakfast.
